President Donald Trump drove the wedge splitting Washington from its Western allies even deeper on Friday with a shock call for Russian Federation to be readmitted to the G7 club of nations.

He is not expected to stay till the end of the summit.

The Italian leader could turn out to be one of the friendliest faces for Trump at the G7 summit in Charlevoix, as his new populist government also stands for protectionist trade policies.

President Trump contended, though, that he has been Russia's "worst nightmare" when it comes to increased sanctions and worldwide pressure and that it would be more productive for Russian Federation to be involved in the meetings between the countries.

"With that being said, Russian Federation should be in this meeting", Trump said.

Mrs Merkel said it was too soon to say whether leaders would issue a common communique at the summit because the leaders had not yet addressed trade and climate. "He has all this smoke surrounding what may or may not have happened during the campaign with Russia and with his campaign, and instead of backing off of it, instead of distancing himself, we continue to see him run directly towards Vladimir Putin, nearly as if there is no concern whatsoever for Vladimir Putin meddling in our elections, for Russians shooting down a commercial plane... for Russia annexing Crimea--which is the reason why they're not in the G-8!"

Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Theresa May and new Italian premier Giuseppe Conte agreed on a common stance on Russian Federation during talks together on the sidelines of the G7 summit, which is taking place in Canada.

"We need the president to be able to distinguish between our allies and adversaries, and to treat each accordingly".

Trump also singled out tariffs on U.S. dairy products in yet another scathing tweet directed at Canada just before the summit begins. And I'll tell you what, it's what I do. "Not fair to our farmers!"

Macron and Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who also sought friendship with Trump, made it clear they would prefer no consensus to a climbdown on trade.

However, such reports raise uncomfortable questions about the assurances made by Facebook, the government said. But he defended the now-defunct consultancy's reputation and said he felt victimised.

In one of today's postings, Trump says he is heading to Canada for G7 talks that will mostly centre on the longtime, unfair trade practices aimed at the United States.

"Looking forward to straightening out unfair Trade Deals with the G-7 countries. It it doesn't happen, we come out even better", he tweeted on Friday morning. Their alliance grew further as US President Donald Trump stepped up pressure specially on China both on the trade and North Korean fronts.

Despite the tension, the president was greeted cordially by Trudeau as he arrived at the annual gathering, held this year at a picturesque Quebec resort.

Sitting down with Trudeau, Trump said "the relationship is probably better, as good or better than it has hever been and I think we'll get to something beneficial to Canada and the US".

Trudeau, for his part, said Trump's action would hurt American workers as well as Canadians.

Trudeau said he and Trump have disagreed over Trump's call for Canada to open up its supply management system, which protects dairy, poultry and eggs farmers, during the hard ongoing renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The tweets confirm Trump will indeed come, after weeks of speculation he may cancel rather than endure widespread criticism from allies over steel and aluminum tariffs.

Canada and other United States allies are retaliating with tariffs on United States exports.

Trump's deteriorating relationships with Trudeau and Macron - both of whom he has previously lavished with praise - come as the USA finds itself increasingly isolated from key allies over Trump's isolationist policies, including his decisions to pull out of the Paris climate agreement and to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal. "While the other G7 democracies continue to uphold those values, President Trump has isolated the United States, weakened American influence, and alienated our closest allies".
