This weekend is round seven of the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship, which takes us to Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, home of the Canadian Grand Prix.

"It is a good side effect, but today at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve we had Jacques driving his father's vehicle earlier, which was very emotional and to have a win with me driving makes me very proud".

Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas tailed Vettel the entire way after fighting off Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen off the start, but Bottas never got almost close enough to mount a challenge, though he did come home a solid second.

The win is Vettel's 50th and only his second in Canada, after his 2013 triumph at the event.

Daniel Ricciardo, a victor two weeks ago in Monaco in another race panned for being boring, brought his Red Bull in third, just ahead of defending champion Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes. In fact, he told the flag waver to wave it a lap early, so it wasn't anything to do with the fact it was a celebrity flag waver.

Vettel picked up his second career victory at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and the first for Ferrari in Montreal since Michael Schumacher won three in a row from 2002-04.

"We came to Montreal expecting to perform strongly and today's result is a further lesson to us that the historic patterns of performance between the teams are not holding true this year", Wolff warned.

Another image of the same gathering however suggests a more relaxed interaction, with Merkel smiling and Trump making eye contact. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was not intimidated, Jiang reported. "And we charge nothing", Trump said.

"He just run me out of road".

"With the start we had, with the race we had, there was nothing more we could do", said Bottas, who has finished second four times this season, but hasn't yet won. Having shown formidable race pace in the opening rounds Ferrari had been on the back foot to Mercedes but they brought an engine upgrade to this race which has put them right back in contention.

It meant the Briton lost a place to Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo at his stop, and Hamilton had a nervy moment when Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen emerged alongside him after his much later stop.

Frenchman Esteban Ocon was ninth for Force India with Monaco's Charles Leclerc taking the final point for Sauber.

It was a short day for the lone Canadian as Stroll's Williams slid across the track and rammed New Zealander Brendon Hartley of Toro Rosso into a wall.

The Toro Rosso was launched into the air, wrecking both cars. After 42 laps, sadly, Fernando Alonso's 300th Grand Prix weekend came to an end when, chasing 10th, he was called in to pit and retire.

They should have new pieces for the next race June 24 in Le Castellet in France.
