Uber driver who booted 2 kissing women has license suspended

A lesbian couple who have been dating for two years were booted out of an Uber taxi in NY on Saturday for kissing.

However, the driver, identified in the article as Ahmad El Boutari, was serious.

The women, Alex Iovine and Emma Pichl, wanted to take an Uber from Gowanus to the East Village in New York City.

Iovine said the driver began yelling at the two women for "being disrespectful and inappropriate" after they briefly kissed.

"It's illegal", the driver says in the video.

The CEO of Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi, issued a statement in which she said that homophobic drivers "don't belong on Uber", the Post reported in a followup article.

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission, which licenses about 180,000 drivers of vehicle services and yellow cabs, called his behaviour "ridiculous".

NYC's TLC, which governs taxis and other "for hire" cars, became aware of the incident after the New York Daily News Story, which included the video the women recorded.

"Why are we not allowed to kiss in an Uber?"

Actor Sylvester Stallone under probe for sexual assault
The Los Angels County District Attorney's Office is now reviewing a sexual assault case against actor Sylvester Stallone . A woman claimed the action hero raped her decades ago and she filed a police report with the allegations in November.

Uber is also investigating the case and said it had suspended the driver's access to its app, The Associated Press reported. But Iovine and Pichl said they were doing no such thing.

Iovine refuted El Boutari's recollection of the incident, telling the Daily News that "we would never disrespect someone else's auto in such manner and we always handle ourselves appropriately in public".

"We had leaned over and peck kissed and then a couple of minutes later the driver abruptly pulled over", Ms Iovine told ABC7 Eyewitness News.

"We got over the Manhattan Bridge into the city", Pichl told the New York Post. He said they played loud videos on their phones and that one of the women put her feet up on the seats. The Commission denounced the driver's behavior, saying it was "repugnant". "It went from shock to like anger", passenger Alex Iovine said.

"It's not illegal to kiss in NY". "I didn't feel comfortable with them", he told the newspaper, adding that he asked the couple to stop kissing. "It's an unfortunate circumstance and we will do everything we can for that not to repeat".

"It's 2018 in New York City and this isn't the way we live any more".

"We kind of keep to ourselves".

"It was a really bad experience", Iovine said, "and ironically occurred on a bright sunny day during Pride Month in NYC". "I think we are going to steer clear of Uber for a bit".
