Kim Kardashian jetting to Memphis to meet recently released prisoner Alice Johnson for first time

Kardashian West, sitting next to Johnson, told Hoda Kotb that the first Trump family member she contacted about Johnson's case was Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter.

This is their first joint interview since President Donald Trump commuted Alice's life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense, which Kim successfully campaigned for during a trip to the White House at the end of May.

"I was like, 'You're going home, '" Kardashian West said last week, recalling the conversation.

Later, when Kardashian West called with the clemency news, Johnson said she "went into a full-fledged, Pentecostal holy dance". "As soon as I found out who she was, I started getting every magazine I could find". People were listening. I'm telling you, I was dancing, I was dancing, I was jumping, I was screaming.

"And that was the first thing I said", Kardashian West told NBC's Kotb with a smile.

"So under the new administration, I just believe this is part of the whole plan of God to show everybody that you can get a miracle from the least likely sources".

She also met with Trump in the Oval Office, a photograph of which the president released on Twitter.

When asked about what's next for the both of them, Johnson and Kardashian West both expressed their intention of working to help more people trapped in the criminal justice system. "I don't have that feeling that others have about meeting her as 'Celebrity Kim, ' but I'm meeting a friend who fought for me". "'Thank you" is not big enough. My life is completely intertwined forever with those who are left behind.
