Senator John McCain, a Republican from Arizona who is away from the Senate amid treatment for brain cancer, released a statement last week saying Haspel's refusal to rebuke torture as immoral in her hearing was "disqualifying".

The U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee will reportedly hold the vote behind closed doors, which is its traditional procedure.

Such unusual move former military decided because of suspicions about the possible involvement Haspel to use enhanced interrogation techniques, in other words, the torture of suspects.

None of them objected to what was being done in the name of "national security", nor did any of them inform the public. If approved by the committee, Haspel's nomination would head to the Senate, which is expected to narrowly confirm her appointment.

On one hand, many Americans reject torture as a matter of moral principle.

Tuesday forecast: Isolated chance of showers/storms this morning
Tuesday aside from a morning sprinkle should be on the dry side with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Our best chance for rain will be Tuesday night into Wednesday , with scattered showers and storms possible.

The assessment of a Green Beret, however, failed to convince the former Guantanamo Bay detainee, who believes that the drowning experience, where one's mouth and nose are covered while large quantities of water are poured over their face, is nothing short of torture.

CIA director nominee Gina Haspel, who would be the first woman to lead the spy agency, is expected to pass a key committee vote that a congressional source told Reuters is now set for Wednesday.

Brennan played a much larger role than Haspel did in regards to the enhanced interrogation program, which Warner and Kaine seem to have issues with. He was suggesting, and with good reason, that a Clinton nomination of Haspel would have produced a unanimous vote. "I'd have them active and ready to go, and I'd go back and study them and learn".

Both the Democratic senators and the liberal editorialists seek to present the Central Intelligence Agency torture program as an aberration, a violation of the moral principles that supposedly guide American foreign policy. Two red-state Democrats, Senators Joe Manchin and Joe Donnelly, already announced they will back her. As far as the USA ruling elite is concerned, all methods are moral that serve its class ends and maintain its wealth and global power.
