The two newly revealed pages were written in Frank's first diary, with a red plaid cover, on September 28, 1942, when she was 13 years old.

The pages contain jokes, similar anecdotes also appearing elsewhere in the diary, and Anne's view of sexual education.

Announcing their discovery on Tuesday, the Anne Frank Foundation believes the text helped the teenager express her sexuality.

Cooped up in an attic for months on end, Anne Frank jotted down some of her observations about life in her diary.

Miss Frank wrote her diary while she and her family went in hiding for more than two years, in a bid to escape from the Nazis during World War II. In Paris they have big houses for that.

The Anne Frank House Museum said at a presentation that it, and several Dutch historical institutes, were able to reproduce the lost pages after years of study by shining a light through them and photographing them in high resolution.

However, he said it provides an early example of how Anne "creates a fictional situation that makes it easier for her to address the sensitive topics that she writes about".

This controversial day in the Israeli calendar marks the date that the whole of Jerusalem was brought under Israeli rule. Whether that upbeat, defiant message can keep politics out of next year's contest in Jerusalem is another story.

Researchers were at pains to point out that it is not the first time that Frank wrote about sex in her diary.

The deciphering was done by researchers from the Anne Frank museum, the Institute for War, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies and the Huygens Institute of Netherlands History.

Brown paper had been used to cover the two pages in Anne's first diary, but digital and image processing technology was used to decipher their contents.

In the passage on sex, Anne described how a young woman gets her period around age 14, saying that it is 'a sign that she is ripe to have relations with a man but one doesn't do that of course before one is married'.

"They bring us even closer to the girl and the writer Anne Frank". She had no idea she would one day become one of the Holocaust's most famous symbols.

"Anne's diary texts show that she had gleaned information on the subject of sexuality from her parents, especially her father, from her friend Jacqueline and from books", the statement reads.

Her diary, written during her time in hiding, is one of the most moving testimonies of the war, and more than 30 million copies have been sold.
