Woman attacked and killed by pack of dogs identified

A pack of vicious wiener dogs mauled an Oklahoma woman to death, according to reports.

Chris Bryant, sheriff of Carter County, Oklahoma, about 90 miles south of Oklahoma City, said Tracy Garcia, 52, was mauled Thursday night by her neighbor's small dogs near her home.

None of the dogs weighed more than 40 pounds or were taller than knee height, KXII said.

When police arrived at the scene, they shot one of the dogs to death as it attempted to attack a responding officer, KXII-TV in Ardmore reported. The other six were transported to Westwood Veterinary Hospital, where they were euthanized at the owner's request.

Bryant said unincorporated areas of Carter County, where the attack took place, have no leash laws, and no arrests have been made, KTEN reported. The shelter's euthanasia technician explained that the younger dogs were a "standard dachshund and terrier mix" while the oldest canine appears to have been a border collie mix. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victims".

The dogs were then sent to the Ardmore Animal Shelter. The dogs ranged in age from 1 to 3 years old.

All of the dogs were infested with fleas and ticks, but did not have other visible health problems. They wont be testing the dogs for rabies. "This is just a bad deal all the way around".

"We were cleaning ticks off ourselves all day", Dinwiddie said.

"A predominant breed in these dogs is definitely standard dachshund", Dinwiddie said. The woman later died of her injuries.

Police are still investigating the attack.
