Mikel Arteta and Josep Guardiola Manager of Manchester City looks on during the Premier League match between Manchester City and Brighton and Hove Albion at Etihad Stadium

Everton appointed Allardyce as manager with the club stuck in a rut at the start of the Premier League season.

Although Allardyce successfully lifted the Toffees away from the relegation zone and up to eighth in the standings, his defensive style was criticised by fans, who booed the team regularly towards the end of the season.

There was widespread speculation in the British press about Allardyce's position at the Merseyside club after a below-par season.

Watford remain angered by Everton's repeated attempts to lure Silva to Goodison Park over a two-month period which unsettled the Portuguese boss and led to a dramatic dip in form on field - after one win was notched in 11 matches.

Professor Denise Barrett-Baxendale told the Everton website: "On behalf of the Chairman, Board of Directors and Mr Moshiri, I'd like to thank Sam for the job he has done at Everton over the last seven months".

"However, we have made the decision that, as part of our longer-term plan, we will be appointing a new manager this summer and will be commencing this process immediately".

I though the song was a good song and i remember my experience, '. I definitely want it to feel like it's an anthem to somebody.

"I can't quite say confident after all the rumours I'm reading in the paper", said Allardyce, when questioned about his future.

"We've seen how we got in wrong last time, with the timing of Koeman's sacking and the money that was spent on signings".

Allardyce took over the reins on November 30 past year, six months after leaving a similarly short stint at Crystal Palace.

The Hornets filed the complaint earlier this year after deeming Everton's approach for Silva last November as illegal, with Sky Sports reporting that, to date, all efforts to reach an amicable solution have failed.

England's all-time top scorer had reportedly agreed terms on a £12.5 million move to DC United in Major League Soccer last week.

Asked about Everton's current situation, Stubbs told talkSPORT host Jim White: "I'm pretty sure they have someone in mind".
