Rather, he is being charged with operating a server that contained a 54GB container of child abuse content (we're not going to label it as "pornography" out of respect for adult entertainment performers).

The embarrassing leaks - the largest data theft in the agency's history - included software that was created to take over iPhones and turn smart TVs into surveillance devices, the paper reported Tuesday.

However, Laroche says the investigation "is ongoing" with Schulte remaining "a target of that investigation".

A NY prosecutor is expecting a grand jury to act within weeks against a former Central Intelligence Agency employee who is jailed on child pornography charges but may face further charges in a massive leak of cyber hacking tools.

Schulte has been housed at the Metropolitan Correctional Center ever since.

Schulte's lawyers have argued that he simply ran a public server and had no idea as to the contents of the encrypted container. WikiLeaks began releasing them in March 2017.

That cache would eventually be disclosed as the "Vault 7" data dump.

The Facebook-owned app is also adding protections to ensure users can't be added to groups they've left multiple times. You can mute WhatsApp groups for either 8 hours, a week or for a year and even block the notifications.

"Those search warrants haven't yielded anything that is consistent with [Schulte's] involvement in that disclosure", said assistant USA attorney in the Southern District of New York Matthew Laroche. Schulte's attorneys have said that Tor is used for all kinds of communications and have maintained that he played no role in the Vault 7 leaks.

Whoever leaked the information apparently sent it to WikiLeaks, where it was published under the name "Vault 7".

He has plead not guilty to the charges. After quitting the CIA in November 2016 - according to Roger he had complained about security vulnerabilities at the agency - he joined Bloomberg as a software engineer.

Schulte said in the statement that he joined the intelligence community to fulfill what he saw as a patriotic duty to respond to the attacks of September 11, 2001.

In other hearings in Schulte's case, prosecutors have alleged that he used Tor at his NY apartment, but they have provided no evidence that he did so to disclose classified information.

Schulte also claimed that he reported "incompetent management and bureaucracy" at the CIA to that agency's inspector general as well as a congressional oversight committee.

Assistant Federal Defender Sabrina Shroff commented Tuesday about 29-year-old Joshua Adam Schulte after a prosecutor revealed last week that the government hoped a grand jury would return charges in about 45 days.
