"Girls", which also features pop singers Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX, was intended as a celebration of sexual freedom but instead became the focal point of a discussion about harmful stereotyping and marginalization after a few queer artists and fans called out some of the song's lyrics.

In January, Cardi B defended her partner Offset after he was criticised for using the lyric "I can not vibe with queers" in a song. In short, it's a bop. I though the song was a good song and i remember my experience, '.

The rapper contributed a guest rap on the track, the chorus of which features Rita singing: "Sometimes I just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls, red wine, I just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls".

And Cardi B tweeted, too, in typical Cardi fashion: Whether or not "Girls" meant any harm, Hayley Kiyoko and others are constant reminders that the art we make and listen to does, ultimately, have an impact.

She finished off her Tweet by saying that she has "strived to be a contributor to the LGBTQ+ community" throughout her entire career.

Surprisingly, her ex-boyfriend Rob shared the statement on Twitter on Monday, along with a string of praising hands emojis. "I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey", she tweeted.

"Girls", she wrote, is "an accurate account of a very real and honest experience".

Singer Rita Ora and her sexiest snaps around. "A song like this just fuels the male gaze while marginalizing the idea of women loving women", Kiyoko wrote on Twitter. In a statement Cardi released on Twitter on May 15, the Bronx rapper explained how holding on to stereotypes was not her intention.

"Not everybody knows the correct "terms" to use".

Whilst addressing the critics of "Girls", Cardi also opened up about her previous use of homophobic language, to which she claimed she used words she didn't know were offensive, learned and then stopped using them. I definitely want it to feel like it's an anthem to somebody.
