WhatsApp users’ privacy at risk Report

However, now, WhatsApp does not seem to delete the data from the server and that enables users to download it again if it was accidentally deleted.

An update to resolve an issue of "Day" bug that's affecting a handful of Android users using the WhatsApp beta version 2.18.109 has been released, reports WABetaInfo. However, with the latest update, WhatsApp will now allow you to restore that deleted image from its server again. The only condition is that the message, which had the media attachment should not have been deleted by the sender, otherwise the download will not possible.

As of now, a handful of users have noticed the new feature and using the same, they are able to make and receive payments from their family and friends. Due to a mysterious bug, the timestamp on the chat window of users is appearing with numbers. The app will also check if the file is available in the 'sdcard/WhatsApp/' directory before downloading the file.

This means that if you removed any images, GIFs, videos, audio files, audio recordings or even a document from the internal storage of your smartphone, WhatsApp will allow you to re-download them again from its servers.

Downloaded media shared on WhatsApp is saved in a separate folder on your phone. If you're among the selective users, this feature would be already available for you as of this writing. According to the report, the recipient was able to download media from a text sent 2 months ago but there for the messages dating back to nearly a year, the application asks to request the sender to send the file again.

According to the report, files deleted two months ago could also be downloaded during the testing of the feature. As WABetaInfo reports, with the introduction of the new feature, it is possible for users to retrieve old media content again even if it has been deleted from their phone. When a media file is downloaded successfully, the app does not delete it from the server.
