In the early hours of Saturday, the US, Britain and France launched a barrage of missile attacks against Syria in response to what they claim to have been a chemical attack by the Syrian government in the town of Douma in the suburb of Damascus on April 7. McKenzie said 76 missiles were used in that strike.

Russia's UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told the UN meeting in NY that the USA and its allies struck without waiting for an investigation by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, branding the attack "hooliganism".

He said that the strikes were a response to the Syrian regime's actions and were not a provocation against the Russian Federation or its forces in Syria.

Syria and Russian Federation deny that any chemical attack occurred and say the incident was staged by foreign intelligence services so it could be used as a pretext for military action against Assad.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said that four RAF Tornado jets were deployed to launch missiles at a Syrian military facility. He congratulated himself as well as allies for "their wisdom the power of their fine military" and that it "could not have had a better result".

McKenzie said that Syria did launch 40 unguided surface-to-air missiles (SAM) after the US -led operation was over, and alluded to the possibility that Assad's 40 SAMs could have hit his own people because the Syrian missiles "had to come down somewhere".

"We're going to get back to our country, where we belong, where we want to be", he said.

France's foreign minister has threatened further missile strikes against Syria if Bashar Assad's government uses chemical weapons again.

War fetishists in Congress are already drooling for more and egging Trump to step things up.

Russia's USA embassy released a statement saying "all responsibility" lies with Washington, London and Paris and the military action will "not be left without consequences".
