Searchers have found the body of a 12-year-old boy, the last missing member of an Indian family of four which perished when their sports utility vehicle plunged into a swollen river in the USA state of California some 11 days ago. The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said Monday, April 16, 2018, that searchers located the vehicle Sunday and recovered the bodies of Sandeep Thottapilly and Saachi Thottapilly.

The body was found a day after the vehicle with Siddhant's father and younger sister inside were pulled from the river sediment.

Searchers are looking for the missing family members and their vehicle which is believed to be submerged somewhere in the Eel River.

Sandeep was a Vice-President at Union Bank, while Soumya was a stay-at-home parent. Toxicology tests check for alcohol or illicit substances in a corpse. Investigators said that vehicle may have been intentionally driven off the cliff.

The bodies of Markis, 19, Abigail, 14, and Jeremiah, 14, were found after the accident.

Searchers have been combing the river for days, by boat and air as weather and water conditions improved.

A team on a boat smelled gasoline about half a mile (1 kilometre) downstream from where the crash was reported and found the SUV.

Soon thereafter, search divers entered the water and were able to feel what they believed to be a person inside of the vehicle. Visibility was extremely poor and divers noted the vehicle was encased in a large amount of sediment from the river current.

Recovery efforts continued for several hours.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said after the vehicle was partially removed from the river, 2 bodies were found inside the vehicle - later identified as 42-year-old Sandeep and 9-year-old Saachi Thottapilly.

Autopsies are expected to be performed later this week. But the Thottapillys never made it to San Jose and were later reported missing, police said. They were supposed to have arrived to visit a friend in the San Jose area on April 6, but they did not make it as scheduled.

The California Highway Patrol reported April 6 that a witness had seen a vehicle go over the side of a steep embankment on US-101, south of Dora Creek in Northern Mendocino County. They are coordinating with the police. Babu Thottapilly had earlier taken to twitter to plead for help for his son via External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
