The defence argued that the woman made false rape allegations because she regretted having group sex with the men and feared it may have been documented, and they were acquitted at Belfast crown court in March.

Earlier today it was confirmed that Mr Jackson nor Mr Olding would be returning to play rugby.

Ulster Rugby and the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) are conducting a review into the incident in June 2016, with focus now on a series of sexually explicit WhatsApp conversations revealed during the trial involving the players and their friends.

People took to Twitter in response to the verdicts, using the hashtag #IBelieveHer - an global hashtag which has been used previously to criticise how the justice system handles sexual assault and rape cases.

A statement from Stuart Olding reads: "It is with deep regret that I have been informed that the IRFU have made a decision to revoke my contract".

Paddy Wallace said such supporters may "vote with their feet" as they believe their views were not taken into consideration in the decision-making process, and that the move was simply motivated by money.
