Heavy rain ends Monday morning but showers remain for the afternoon. It’s chilly and breezy

The Storm Prediction Center has the entire WDAM viewing area under an enhanced risk for severe weather (a three-out-of-five on the one-to-five scale where five is the most severe).

The rain will come to an end by mid Sunday morning. For that reason, please heed all severe thunderstorm warnings with the same urgency as tornado warnings, since 60-70+ miles per hour wind gusts have the potential to cause as much tree and powerline damage as a EF0 to EF1 tornado. And, with a saturated ground and top-heavy trees that have leafed out, it's not impossible that a couple of trees are uprooted this afternoon. Lows will be in the lower 40s north and upper 40s south!

Once the severe storm threat is over we'll still have to contend with a flooding threat. Another front arrives by Wednesday, bringing only a small chance for rain Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Some of the storms could be strong in the afternoon. As we go into the evening and overnight there is a slight chance of a shower. Lows around 62. Highs around 78. It'll be even warmer on Tuesday before a weak cold front moves through the area. An isolated tornado warning is possible as this line of storms has had a history of producing severe weather to our west.

After a long chilly winter, New Yorkers were particularly excited about the spring weather Saturday, as temperatures broke into the 70s.

Conditions range from severe weather in the lower Mississippi River Valley and southeast to blizzard conditions in the Northern Plains and upper Midwest.

Sunday morning will be cloudy with a few showers possible. Southerly wind 5-10 miles per hour.

Storms will also produce brief, torrential rain and possibly hail up to about the size of quarters.

Monday will be breezy and cooler with highs near 60 degrees. Rain chances really pickup mainly after 2 AM.
