The Geomagnetic Storm On March 18 To Miss Earth

But that's not the full story.

According to The Sun, this latest magnetic storm is being described as "minor" by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the NOAA has issued a storm warning via Twitter saying that the storm will be in effect today and tomorrow.

On Monday, NASA announced a category G1 geomagnetic storm would hit earth sometime between March 14 and 15. The storm could result in blackouts and jeopardize communication satellites, and thus all telecommunication on Earth.

The sun is actually pretty quiet at the moment.

"Railway networks could be affected in case of an extreme space weather event due to the direct impact on system components, such as track circuits or electronics, or indirectly via dependencies on power, communications, and progressively on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) for timing and positioning", ScienceAlert reported, quoting JRC.

Low-Level Lead Exposure Ups CVD Mortality Risk in US Adults
The new Lancet study estimates that deaths from lead exposure approach the levels attributable to smoking, which kills 483,000 Americans each year.

But the consequences of the storm could be far more serious than the appearance of the Northern Lights.

The scientists created this scale based in part on an index generated from the amount of magnetic deviation which is produced through a storm in combination with measurements of different currents including "auroral electrojets" and the "field-aligned current". That storm then can cause solar flares, a release of magnetic energy, and cause the Earth's aurora borealis to light up, bringing Northern Lights chasers joy all over the globe. "Transformers may experience damage". Charged particles from the burst are now headed straight for Earth. The cracks, which are said to stay open for hours, create weaknesses in Earth's natural defenses and could leave GPS systems and commercial flights more exposed to the damaging effects of a solar storm.

The SWPC says that the northern lights could be seen as far south as ME and MI thanks to the stream of charged particles heading our way.

Though NOAA's Rutledge stressed in his statement that things should be fine on March 18, Newsweek noted that serious geomagnetic storms could indeed cause chaos should they hit our planet. Note that there are certain beliefs associated with solar storms that aren't proved yet as per which, these storms can cause headaches, sleeplessness, and dizziness too. When the sun emits superheated plasma, otherwise known as a coronal mass ejection (CME), it can trigger a geomagnetic storm.
