J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti sacks finance minister Haseeb Drabu over controversial remarks

PDP Drops Haseeb Drabu from Cabinet After Political Storm Over the Finance Minister's Kashmir Remark

The chief minister has sent a letter to Governor NN Vohra informing him that she had made a decision to remove Drabu, reported IANS.

"Don't see Jammu and Kashmir as a conflict state and a political issue, it is a society which has social issues right now".

Ironically, Drabu was one of the chief architects of PDP's proposal of Self-Rule. "As if everything he did has some or the other intervention from BJP and Ram Madhav", a senior minister in PDP-BJP government told Firstpost from Jammu on Monday.

He asked Mehbooba Mufti to clarify if this was the final and formal abandonment of the party's "Self Rule" document which till now was being portrayed as the party's supreme vision document.

After the statement created political furore in Kashmir, the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Malik, came down heavily on Drabu, the MLA from Rajpora constituency of Pulwama in south Kashmir.

Muhammad Yasin Malik in statement issued in Srinagar, while reacting to the assertions of PDP leader and puppet minister Haseeb Drabu, which he made during a conclave organized by Indian PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi, said that people like Drabu had no ideology, faith and ethics but were always ready to represent their clients' wishes and whims.

Ben Stokes appears in crown court via video link from New Zealand
England cricketer Ben Stokes has pleaded not guilty after being accused of fighting outside a Bristol nightclub in September. Stokes and Hales will also face an European Central Bank disciplinary hearing once the criminal proceedings have concluded.

"Why did you promise the people that your party would work towards helping in resolving the political issue when you don't even consider the issue to be political to start with?", he said. He was asked to explain his position on Sunday by the party leadership which, party leaders said, was in contradiction to their own stand.

Acknowledging the difficulties in taking the resolution issue speedily forward, he said PDP feels highly perturbed at the obvious lack of urgency in resolving this issue and reiterates its commitment to uphold Party "s stated objectives in which the resolution of the political issue has a paramount importance".

Drabu was handpicked for the job by former chief minister and patron of PDP, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

However, sources said Mehbooba and those close to her didn't trust him and suspected him of being close to the BJP and RSS.

"Will be interesting to see who replaces him in the Finance Ministry", the National Conference working president added.
