St. Louis chefs, restaurants miss James Beard Awards cut

Baltimore chef Cindy Wolf is again a James Beard Award finalist

Three San Antonio chefs made the James Beard semifinalist list of 2018 Restaurant and Chef Award, announced February 15 - chefs Diego Galicia and Rico Torres of Restaurant Mixtli and McHugh. He's the first Miami-area finalist for the award since Jeff McInnis made the so-called shortlist in 2013 after helping found Yardbird Southern Table & Bar in 2013.

The James Beard Foundation has named San Antonio chef Steve McHugh of Cured a 2018 nominee for "Best Chef" of the Southwest.

Outstanding Restaurant Design: Corey Lee's In Situ, the signature restaurant at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, has been nominated in the "75 seats and over" category.

Ella Brennan, Martin's mother and Brennan's aunt, received the same honor in 1984 and received the James Beard Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. The category is open to chefs in Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Florida and Puerto Rico. Virginia's Foggy Ridge Cider is in the running for Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Professional. The list announced Wednesday includes those whittled down from a list of semifinalists announced in February. Results will be announced on Monday, May 7 at the James Beard Awards Gala in Chicago.
