Apple Maps shows you the nearest bike-sharing stations

Bike-sharing

With this update, you can type "bike sharing" in any city and find the name of the service and the location of the closest station.

TechCrunch reports that the data in Apple Maps doesn't include how many bikes are available at each sharing station or how many parking spaces are open. The update comes after the Cupertino giant struck a deal with Ito World, a transport information company. Apple has collaborated with Ito World in order to add bike-sharing data in Apple Maps.

However, Apple Maps' new feature will shine when any bikers travel a new town and want to explore on a human-powered pair of wheels.

However, Apple Maps now only shows contact information and address of the services, whereas other more sophisticated applications offer the number of available bikes as well as empty docks. As the name of the service is different in each city, you often end up on Google looking for local bike-sharing services.

Apple Maps doesn't actually tell you the number of bikes available.

However, there is no integration with dockless bike-sharing services, like Jump, Mobike and Ofo, at the moment.

Apple has pushed-out an update to its Google Maps rival. Let's be honest, bike sharing isn't equivalent to the Mario Kart skin Google rolled out to Google Maps for MAR10 Day, but it's a good start.
