The loss ends the Cavaliers' fifteen game winning streak.

The Cavaliers (23-2, 12-1) still hold a two-game lead in the ACC over second-place Clemson with five games left in the regular season but failed to sweep the season series in the Commonwealth Clash. "We're just trying to play and win games and worry about the next day and worry about today".

For Virginia Tech (18-7, 7-5), the rivalry win will serve as the crown jewel of a resume that had previously appeared destined for the NCAA tournament bubble.

The lead grew to 12 before Virginia sprang to life, trimming the margin to four late in the first half.

Will No. 2 Virginia roll to another big win when the Cavaliers play host to their rival, Virginia Tech, tonight at 6:15PM ET? But it didn't happen.

It was the fifth victory in the past six games for the Hokies, with two of the victories coming in overtime.

Virginia's success this season can be attributed to the team's defense.

Virginia has won 15 straight games following its 59-55 victory at Florida State earlier this week.

UVa trailed by as many as nine points in the 1st half, and the 'Hoos were down 33-26 at halftime. Down four, 30 seconds to go, on the road, to an incredible free-throw shooting team. For the game, UVA shot just 34.4 percent from the field.

Virginia Tech guard Justin Robinson scored a game-high 20 points along with seven assists.

Jerome's desperation shot at the buzzer found nothing but backboard, and the celebration was on for Buzz Williams' team. On the other end, Nickeil Alexander-Walker buried a three-pointer to bring the Hokies to within one, 60-59, with 20 seconds remaining. It again fouled Hall. He went to the line for a one-and-one, but missed the front end, which gave the Hokies the ball with a chance to win.

Hall misses the free throw, and Robinson sprints down the court and misses a layup. Blackshear, who finished with just seven points and who missed six wide open three-pointers, was also fouled on the play.

Kerry Blackshear Jr. turned a forgettable night into a most memorable one, and he and his Virginia Tech teammates likely kept No. 2 Virginia from ascending to No. 1 for the first time since 1983 with a 61-60 overtime victory on Saturday night. Like Robinson and Hall before him, Blackshear missed.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE (RPI: 28, KenPom: 45, NBC seed: 11): It's simple with Middle Tennessee: They can not lose a game unless it is to Western Kentucky in the Conference USA tournament if they want a real chance at being an at-large team.

After last weekend's disappointing performance against Miami, Buzz Williams inserted Devin Wilson into the lineup and practiced only defense all week.

Losing sucks, losing to your in-state rival really sucks, losing to your in-state rival when if you score two more points, you're #1 in the nation for the first time in more than 35 years, really, really sucks. Virginia is scoring 68.3 per game while allowing just 52.4 per contest. The big issue right now for UCLA is that four of their eight losses come outside Quadrant 1 - including one Quadrant 3 loss - but the good news is that their last three games are all Quadrant 1 games: at Utah, at Colorado, at USC. He made just 5 of his 21 attempts, including only 3 of his 14 3-point tries.

Virginia Tech also managed to outrebound UVA 37-36.

With just a minute and 21 seconds left, it felt like it was all but over.

Virginia's aspirations of perfection in the ACC came to a jarring end Saturday night.

The Hokies head to Durham on Wednesday to play No. 9 Duke and then to Atlanta to play Georgia Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 7pm, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
