When Jennifer Willoughby and Colbie Holderness stepped forward to tell the story of how they were physically, verbally and emotionally abused by their ex-husband, who had since become a top White House aide, President Donald Trump had nothing but good things to say about the man they had accused of domestic violence.

This week saw the departure of White House speechwriter David Sorensen and staff secretary Rob Porter. "Some are old and some are new", Trump said. "Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?" he said.

A second White House staffer has now resigned due to domestic abuse claims.

Rob Porter "did a great job while he was at the White House".

Jessica Corbett described their chaotic marriage to The Washington Post, including allegations that Sorensen ran over her foot with a vehicle, put out a cigarette on her hand and threw her into a wall.

Both men deny the allegations. "Have they not been "shattered and destroyed"?" Porter to be fired 40 minutes after learning of the charges against him, an assertion that other officials disputed.

According to CNN's Friday report, Trump was not consulted when Hicks wrote the statement and he thinks the communications director put her own interests above his.

"What the president is saying when he is talking about due process, he's right in this way, we are a country of laws", Conway said on CNN's "State of the Union". But to imagine the circus of hearings and accusations that would ensue if a Hillary Clinton presidency allowed dozens of possibly blackmail-vulnerable staffers access to top-secret information is to conjure an endless loop of hearings and accusations that would make the Benghazi investigation look tame.

"Women's lives are upended every day by sexual violence and harassment, " Democratic leader Patty Murray of Washington tweeted Saturday morning. "And we hope he has a wonderful career", Mr Trump said.

CNN reported Wednesday that Kelly was aware in the fall of previous year that Porter was having trouble obtaining his security clearance and that his ex-wives claimed he had abused them. "I'm going to keep standing with them, and trusting them, even if the President won't".

Trump himself has been accused by at least 16 women of misconduct ranging from sexual assault to harassment to inappropriate behavior, claims that he has adamantly denied.

Other White House officials, including Ivanka Trump and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, came to Hicks' defense Friday.

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski ignited weeks of controversy during the 2016 election after he was accused of grabbing then-Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields at a campaign event.

Kelly has said he found out only Tuesday night that the accusations against Porter were true and he was gone immediately.
