'This is Us' gets a big boost from Super Bowl slot

This Is Us dramatically outperformed the tepid results Fox got previous year with the launch of its short-lived 24: Legacy (17.58 million), and also beat the score for The Blacklist (25.72 million), which aired in 2015, the last time the Peacock had possession of the Super Bowl. The NBC drama was also the third most watched show of the night with 10.07 million to the 13.60 million who tuned in forNCIS (1.4/5) and the 10.68 million checking out fellow CBSer Bull (1.1/4), also at 9 PM.

NBC won the night in the demo with a 2.0 but finished second in total viewers with 8.4 million.

"This Is Us" came nowhere near the massive heights it reached in its post-Super Bowl LII timeslot on Sunday, but the NBC drama still managed to handily top Tuesday night in the key demo.

Sunday's Eagles-Patriots NFL title game peaked at 112.3 million between 10 and 10:15 p.m. EST in the final minutes of the second-highest scoring Super Bowl. The average of 103.4 million made Super Bowl LII the 10th most-watched TV show of all time, behind previous installments of the game and, in ninth place at 106 million, the 1983 series finale of "M.A.S.H".

On The CW, Black Lightning took its first true dip, falling two-tenths of a point to a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49 after a steady Flash (0.8 adults).

While NBC's entertainment division will be very happy with these numbers, NBC Sports execs have to be a tad bummed about the numbers for the game itself. After "This Is Us", "Chicago Med" (1.5, 7.4 million) was up in the demo. "The Big Bang Theory", CBS, 14.7 million; "Young Sheldon", CBS, 12.92 million; "State of the Union", Fox News, 11.72 million; "State of the Union Analysis", Fox News, 10.51 million; "State of the Union Preview", Fox News, 9.95 million; "Blue Bloods", CBS, 9.32 million; "Mom", CBS, 9.11 million.

Fox News Channel was the week's most popular cable network, averaging 3.75 million viewers in prime time. At 9, "LA to Vegas" got a 0.8/3 and 2.5 million viewers.

ABC's "World News Tonight" topped the evening newscasts with an average of 9.3 million viewers, NBC's "Nightly News" and the "CBS Evening News" had 6.9 million.
