Figure skating: US sensation Tennell cool as ice

Canada remain in pole position to clinch gold in the figure skating team event at the 2018 Winter Olympics on Sunday.

A product of Buffalo Grove's Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion, Tennell was asked after the event where she "had been" before her rapid rise to the USA women's team and Olympic stage.

Team OAR/Russia's super star and Olympic medal favorite, Yevgenia Medvedeva, notched the highest score ever recorded in the ladies' short program to capture 10 points for the team. She earned a short program score of 75.10 and earned 9 points for Team Italy, who qualified for the free skate.

As it was with the men's short program, the Team USA figure skater in the women's short program will be a newcomer to the Olympics games.

Husband and wife duo Chris Knierim and Alexa Scimeca Knierim will skate in the pairs free skate while the "Shib Sibs", Maia and Alex Shubutani, will make their Olympics debut in the ice dance short dance program.

Read on for the key viewing details for Sunday, as the team event reaches its climax with the two singles skating events and the free dance. Still they were the only team to score into the 80's, earning a 80.51.

Canada enjoyed the best possible start on Saturday thanks to excellent work from Virtue and Moir in the ice dance. "Just to land a run would have been plenty for me and to get on the podium, but to get first is insane", Gerard said.

"We felt that the skate was actually really good".

"We are a little surprised by the score, to be honest. I feel like I get more done with my day", she said.

A fascinating finale is undoubtedly in store, although Canada will be hopeful of continuing their dominance and getting this one wrapped up before the final free dance.

The free dance will conclude the team competition Monday at 12:10 p.m. Korea/ 10:20 p.m. EST Sunday. The athletes are judged as usual, but standings are determined by points.

Bradie Tennell skated a clean short program - which included a triple Lutz, triple toe combination, a triple loop and a double Axel - to finish fifth in the phase and earn Team USA six points. Team USA is again in position to medal when the event concludes in PyeongChang on February 12.
