New York sues Harvey Weinstein and his former company over sexual misconduct allegations

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman sued Weinstein Co., along with its co-founders, Harvey and Bob Weinstein, alleging longstanding sexual harassment and other civil-rights violations at the film company.

The lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court against Weinstein and the company he co-founded presented a major obstacle to the reported $500 million deal to sell the movie studio to former Obama administration official Maria Contreras-Sweet.

The lawsuit has halted a potential sale of the company.

He has been accused of sexual harassment or abuse by more than 60 women.

Major Senate Budget Deal
It also includes two years of funding for community health centres and extends several expiring health care programmes. In the Senate , the emerging strategy to avoid a shutdown is to add a bipartisan budget caps deal to the CR.

"As alleged in our complaint, The Weinstein Company repeatedly broke NY law by failing to protect its employees from pervasive sexual harassment, intimidation, and discrimination", state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in court papers. "Every New Yorker has a right to a workplace free of sexual harassment, intimidation, and fear". The suit references the Weinstein Company's COO, but does not use Glasser's name. Allegations first surfaced in October after an investigative report by the New York Times. The suit seeks compensation for employees and to prevent executives who may have enabled the alleged conduct from taking power at the company in the future.

In December 2017 six women also filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein and his former businesses in a proposed class action in the Southern District of NY.

Telephone and email messages seeking comment from Mr Weinstein were not immediately returned.
