Militants' bid to attack camp in Srinagar thwarted: CRPF

Attack on Srinagar CRPF camp foiled encounter underway

Earlier in the day, a fierce encounter broke out between terrorists and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning following a thwarted bid to attack a camp here.

According to reports, two heavily armed terrorists were seen approaching towards CRPF camp in Srinagar's Karan Nagar at around 4.30 am Monday.

The sanitation and search operations is still underway.

Searches in the area revealed that the militants, carrying backpacks and AK-47 rifles, had taken shelter in a building near the CRPF camp, which was then surrounded. "He fired, forcing them to flee from the bylanes", media reports quoted a CRPF spokesperson as saying.

As Firstpost had earlier pointed out that the Sunjwan Militar Station and the CRPF camp in Srinagar are not the only establishments that have been attacked in recent times.

Security installations have come under increased attack in Jammu and Kashmir, where the forces have stepped up the offensive. "Fortunately two terrorists are in cordon & exchange of fire going on".

The attack comes two days after suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed militants attacked the Sunjuwan Army camp in Jammu. The area was being sealed "to disallow the militants to escape from the spot".
