Mike Pence didn't snub North Koreans deliberately, officials say

Kim Yo Jong, left, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, shakes hands with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Pence's tweeted day-after position: "The U.S. will not allow the propaganda charade by the North Korean regime to go unchallenged on the world stage". White House officials stressed that Pence had applauded only for the American team, but Asia experts said the vice president's refusal to stand could be seen as disrespectful to the hosts.

The real Trump did not attend the Olympic Games, but Vice President Pence is in South Korea as part of the USA delegation.

"Always stay healthy. Make sure you visit Pyongyang with President Moon", Kim Yo Jong said to first lady Kim Jung-sook after the concert, according to pool notes from South Korea's Blue House.

It finally found its way to figure skating star Kim Yuna, who won gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games and silver in Sochi four years later.

"I am not anxious at all that anyone in South Korea is going to think that the happy, smiling athletes that they see from North Korea at the games is representative of the experience of the North Korean people", said Jannuzi, also a contributor to North Korean monitor 38 North.

Kim Yo Jong and her delegation were greeted by government officials, including Unification Minister Cho Myong-gyon, before boarding a bullet train to Pyeongchang.

"We've just been preparing by ourselves", Murray told reporters on Friday after her team's final full workout before the tournament kicks off.

Smiling and seemingly unfazed by cameras flashing during the airport meeting, Kim Yo Jong wore a black coat, matching ankle boots and carried a black purse.

South Korean authorities have tried to convince restaurants to change their menus or drop signs suggestive of dog meat during major worldwide events hosted by the country.

'Important occasion': North Korea praises visit to the South during Winter Olympics

Barcelona held by Getafe, Sevilla snatch a win
Getafe will be eager to capitalise on any potential fatigue in the Barcelona ranks and extend their four-match unbeaten run. Valencia move up to third on 43 points, a point ahead of Real Madrid having played a game more than the title holders.

Trump blocks release of Democrats' counter-memo
Nunes, for his part, said it was " no surprise " that the Schiff memo wasn't released, given its lack of redactions. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, tweeted back.

"I was encouraged by the affirmation of our alliance and our common goal, from both (Japanese) Prime Minister Abe and President Moon", Pence said.

The significance of Pence and the North Koreans sitting in the same box seemed to run counter to the mission he was supposed to undertake.

Abe met with Moon for an hour at a hotel near the venue for the Opening Ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, to be held later on February 9.

Pence stood to welcome the USA athletes as the Korean pop hit Gangnam Style blared around the stadium, sparking the "Horse Dance" in the crowd and among the volunteers. International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach then handed the podium to Moon, who declared the Olympics officially open. And on Friday, Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un himself, arrived for the first-ever visit to the South by a member of the ruling Kim dynasty.

"It is not as cold as I expected".

Pence, who is leading the U.S. delegation to the Olympics, briefly encountered Kim Yong-nam at the Games but the two tried to avoid directly facing each other.

Abe confirmed the need for continued pressure on North Korea during a February 2 telephone call with U.S. President Donald Trump as well as in a February 7 meeting in Tokyo with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.

There were fireworks and pop songs.

U.S. president Donald Trump and the North Korean leadership traded insults as tensions rose, with Mr Trump repeatedly dismissing the prospect or value of talks with North Korea.
