Kendrick Lamar releases 'Black Panther' Soundtrack

Coming a week before the film arrives in theaters, today Kendrick Lamar and Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith unleash 'Black Panther: The Album.' The new project features fourteen new tracks, led by the single "All the Stars" featuring Kendrick and SZA.

The letter also states that Viktor was approached twice by the film's creators to use her work, but she refused both times. On the letter, Viktor alleges that the gold patterns on the video were lifted from her artwork titled "Constellations", and used without her permission. "It's an ethical issue because what the whole film purports is that it's about black empowerment, African excellence - that's the whole concept of the story", she told the paper.

Black Panther is set for release on 12 February in United Kingdom cinemas and is expected to be one of the biggest films of the year - with a record for first day ticket pre-sales for a superhero film already broken. And a story about the video on the website Okay Africa last week noted, "The work and influence of British-Liberian artist Lina Iris Viktor can be clearly spotted".

Viktor and her lawyer claim that the video copied the style of her Constellations series.

After dropping on February 9th, Black Panther: The Album has surpassed the popular soundtrack of The Greatest Showman to become the number one album on the music service.

Viktor was last contacted by Marvel and Disney's public relations firm DDA in December of 2017, when she turned down their request for permission a second time. The buzz began mounting after the surprise announcement was accompanied by the first track, "All The Stars" by Kendrick Lamar and SZA.

"Cultural appropriation is something that continually happens to African-American artists, and I want to make a stand", she added.
