The SES received more than 170 callouts for help overnight.

More than 113,000 homes were left without power as storms swept through the region from 6:30pm Sunday.

In Brisbane a young boy was taken to hospital after suffering an electric shock while showering when a lightning bolt hit the ground near his Ferny Grove home.

He's told the ABC the home may not have been properly grounded, or that the lightning strike created an electrical field so powerful it spread in all directions and rendered the home's grounding system useless.

Logan City is the worst affected area with 45,000 homes still without power, and a further 9000 in Brisbane and 2800 in Redland City among other regions.

Although wind gusts reached speeds of 111km/hr in Moreton Bay, the storm cell only provided a small amount of much-needed rain.

A SEVERE thunderstorm warning for damaging winds and large hail has been issued for the Gold Coast as a cluster of storms edge closer towards the city.

In Brisbane's CBD, hundreds of people waiting to see USA band Paramore were forced to evacuate Riverstage due to concerns over lightning, with the concert resuming about an hour later.

With more storms forecast on Monday residents were warned to move cars under cover, be wary of fallen power lines and seek shelter if necessary.

The severe weather also caused delays to train services on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines, but they later returned to normal.
