Bathroom Hand Dryer Bacteria Gross-Out Goes Viral on Facebook

Before you panic and vow to never use a hand dryer again, it's likely that if you're not getting sick or experiencing unusual symptoms, the hand dryer is having no effect.

Given how long some hand dryers have been hanging around in public restrooms, it's no surprise that by this point some of them might be a little bit grim inside. Nichole Ward, a new mom from Carlsbad, CA, made a decision to put a petri dish underneath a public restroom's hand dryer. "DO NOT EVER dry your hands in those things again", she warns.

Ward says she stuck the dish in a Dyson Airblade.

The woman claims she put a Petri dish inside a public hand dryer, then incubated it for 48 hours.

Later, she mentioned Dyson, which has hand dryer models that are enclosed - although she later removed the reference after the post went viral around the world.

What's less clear is how Nichole did it, or whether she followed the correct procedures to create her vile-looking dish, or what her scientific background is.

President Trump tweets after second shutdown ended with passage of budget
Senate Democrats ended the shutdown after Republicans agreed to a floor debate on immigration this month. About $165 billion would go to the Pentagon and $131 billion to non-defense programs.

Ward posted the message in late January and it has since been shared over 545,000 times, and it's a discovery that has many talking.

"Ahhhh! I just used one of those today, and on it it says "the most hygienic" and all I could wonder is what about the air it blows into your face which is the contaminated air in the bathroom".

A spokesperson from Dyson provided the following statement about the controversial Facebook post: We're very surprised to see these results, and unclear on the methodology employed.

She added that the dish contained "several strains of possible pathogenic fungi and bacteria" - a whole host of bugs which could make you ill - that could well end up on people's hands instead. "Dyson AirbladeTM hand dryers are proven hygienic by university research and are trusted by hospitals, food manufacturers and businesses worldwide", the statement read, ABC News reported. "Remember, it's not the size of the colony that matters, just the number found". Just wash with water and soap and leave with wet hands.

Dyson even created a well-produced online video interviewing a microbiologist who spends several minutes trying to debunk the scientific studies, also pointing out that some of them were funded by the paper towel and tissue industry, which they were.
