Trump lawyer claims Russian Federation dossier defamed him, sues BuzzFeed and Fusion GPS

President Donald Trump lashed out at Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein on Twitter on Wednesday, in response to her release of an interview transcript related to the Russian Federation investigation. Fusion GPS, which has worked with both Democrats and Republicans, was hired during the 2016 election by a lawyer for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign to do opposition research on Trump, which resulted in a dossier filled with allegations against him.

He went on to call for Feinstein to face a "tough" primary challenge in her 2018 reelection campaign.

The full 312-page transcript of that interview was released by the senior Democrat on the committee, Senator Dianne Feinstein, yesterday, in defiance of Republican committee members and amid a "fierce debate about transparency surrounding the whole Russia-collusion investigation", The Guardian says.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that it "seems unlikely" that he'd give an interview in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into potential coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

"The single greatest Witch Hunt in American history continues".

On Monday, there were new revelations that FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page had texted messages to each other that suggested they were on the Russian Federation investigation before the election. "Republicans should finally take control!" he wrote.

When Christopher Steele, who had been commissioned to prepare the dossier by Fusion GPS, took it to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2016, he was told they had already received similar information, according to Simpson's testimony.

It is unclear what laws Feinstein might have broken or what Trump meant by calling the release "possibly illegal". Dianne Feinstein of California.

LUCAS: Well, Simpson says that the former British agent who compiled the information in the dossier - it was a man by the name of Christopher Steele - went to the Federal Bureau of Investigation after writing his initial memo in June of 2016. As the partisan fight over Russian interference in the 2016 election has intensified, Simpson has urged that his testimony be released, and a copy of the transcript was made public Tuesday.

"It's totally confounding", said a Grassley spokesman, Taylor Foy.

Feinstein said at the time, "I wasn't consulted about this referral, nor were any of my Democratic colleagues". "Keeping the reporting process wrapped in mystery only helps those who oppose the free press", said Smith.

Feinstein's action comes alongside an effort by Republicans to discredit the dossier as a politically motivated document that the FBI has relied too heavily upon in its investigation.

Mr Trump has always dismissed the claims of the dossier as nothing more than a politically motivated smear.

In addition, Cohen claims he was subjected to at least two separate Congressional investigations, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, due to the dossier being published. "The only way to set the record straight is to make the transcript public".
