Sensex, Nifty scale new peaks, end at lifetime highs on sustained buying

The 30-share Sensex was trading lower by 69 points or 0.20 per cent at 34,373.45 1230 hrs.

Around the same time, the wider Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) edged higher by 7.90 points or 0.07 per cent to 10,659.10 points.

Around 2 p.m., the barometer 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE rose by 36.84 points or 0.11 per cent to trade at 34,540.33 points.

Among BSE sectoral indices, oil & gas index gained the most by 0.69 per cent, followed by banking 0.5 per cent, capital goods 0.48 per cent and metal 0.45 per cent.

"However, selling pressure emerged in afternoon trade after four Supreme Court judges reportedly said working of the apex Court was not in order".

Maruti Suzuki India, Vedanta, Infratel, ICICI Bank and Zee Entertainment Enterprises climbed 1-3 percent in the Nifty pack, while Ambuja Cement, Bosch, Bharti Airtel, UPL and Lupin all fell over 1 percent.
