Samsung Unveil 146-inch Modular 4K TV in Las Vegas

LG OLED Canyon Impresses CES Crowds

Thus, Samsung has allocated part of its resources to develop Micro LED TV technology and successfully debuted a giant 146-inch Micro LED display in CES 2018.

It's that time of the year: This week is the Consumer Electronics Show, the biggest tech expo in the U.S. nearly two hundred thousand people have descended on a surprisingly rainy Las Vegas for the show, among them Geared Up co-host Andru Edwards. Although still a prototype, it could become a retail model within the next two years, seriously shaking up the TV market - although it won't come cheap!

The 146-inch size might seem random, but it's actually just tall enough to be able to cover most home walls from the floor to the ceiling.

It's not known when the TV will appear in shops or interior design shows, however, as LG Electronics Australia marketing manager Angus Jones said the Display arm of LG operated separately from TV sales.

The proprietary LG OLED technology is designed to deliver perfect blacks thanks to its ability to turn each pixel on or completely off

The technology underlying The Wall is quite interesting. "We will firmly establish our position as a leading company by responding to market expectations and providing differentiated value in the rapidly expanding OLED market as well as the existing LCD market". MicroLED panels are inherently emissive just like the competing OLED TVs, which are the current performance kings. The tiny LEDs serve as their own light source and do not require a backlight. What's more, unlike OLEDs, MicroLEDs can potentially go brighter and exhibit immunity to ageing and burn in issues. You can make it larger or smaller without compromising performance.

Samsung has several major events coming up this year with a number of new devices expected to be launched.

Samsung also had plenty to say regarding 8K, but instead of focusing on the display itself, it turned its attention to what really matters - content. However, unlike the regular upscaling algorithm found in your average 4K television set, the one underpinning the Q9S is a lot more complicated. Samsung also announced its new Q9S 85-inch 8K QLED TV that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to convert low resolution content to 8K. The AI engine is also touted to learn as it works to improve its capability over time.

However, don't expect to see this TV in retail stores anytime soon.
