Saints defender follows through on Cam Newton trash talk by

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton receives attention on the field during an NFL playoff game against the New Orleans Saints in New Orleans on Sunday Jan. 7 2018

New Orleans • The NFL said it was in contact with the medical staff of the Carolina Panthers about the handling of an injury suffered by quarterback Cam Newton during Sunday's playoff loss to the New Orleans Saints, trying to determine whether the league's concussion protocols were properly followed.

Saints defensive end Cam Jordan posted a picture on his Instagram story of him sending Panthers QB Cam Newton a bottle of wine for losing to New Orleans three times this season. "You just sense it around your team you get to this stage of the season, the experience these guys have varies". Brees threw for 376 yards and two touchdowns. It was Brees' placement that made him impossible to stop on Sunday, when he consistently exploited tight coverage and threw receivers open all afternoon. But New Orleans played so well against the Panthers, you would have thought their respective seasons had been almost opposite.

The 28-year-old was assessed at pitchside - and the Panthers said on their Twitter account he was "evaluated for a concussion and cleared". "I thought somebody had stuck their finger in my eye, but I have my visor so that couldn't happen".

He added: 'I'm frustrated. On the Panthers' final drive, he forced Cam Newton into an intentional grounding penalty by plowing through two blockers and decking the quarterback.

Remarkable. I'd like to nominate Ted Ginn Jr. and Josh Hill for the 'Unlikeliest Saints Playoff Heroes Hall of Fame.' Guys like Brian Milne, Willie Jackson, and Robert Wilson are founding members. "We could have a played better as a team".

Certainly, Jordan expects a different game that Week 1, when the Saints had one sack — by Jordan — against then-starter Sam Bradford. Fullback Zach line and running back Alvin Kamara each ran for short touchdowns, the latter set up by Michael Thomas' 46-yard reception. "We did everything the right way". "I think when you play, defensively, you look at the games past and you try to look at, 'How can we take away from what hurt us in the first two games?"

Cam Newton

Because it was fourth down, it would have been wiser for Adams to drop the pass for an extra 16 yards of field position ahead of a potential game-winning drive.

Newton ran headlong into New Orleans defensive tackle David Onyemata in the fourth quarter and was bowled over backward. "We knew what we had to do and it was on the receivers".

The Vikings are a scary foe that features the NFL's No. 1-ranked defense and an offense that will make the Saints pay if they are as sloppy in pass coverage as they were Sunday against Carolina. We always believed the Saints still had a shot every game because they had Drew Brees and nobody else did. He also rushed eight times for 37 yards.

The Vikings went 13-3 during the regular season and won the NFC North while the Saints went 11-5 and won the NFC South.

Jordan apparently did not forget Newton's remark. Newton initially walked to the sideline unaided before collapsing on the field.

"We are in contact now with the Panthers' medical staff and we will not comment further until those conversations are completed", the National Football League said in a written statement issued through a spokesman.
