Security forces arrest LeT terrorist wanted in 2000 Red Fort fidayeen attack from Delhi airport

Following the arrest, Ahmed is now being questioned by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police.

In a joint operation, the Delhi Police and Gujarat ATS today detained a man, suspected to be involved in the 2000 Red Fort attack, here, police said. Kawa was on the run since 2000 and was hiding in Kashmir, the police said.

Meanwhile, Kawa's family members on Friday morning protested outside Srinagar's Press Colony, questioning Kawa's arrest after 17 years.

It was carried out by Pakistani terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Sources said the documents the suspect was traveling with had the same name. Reportedly, Kawa confessed during the interrogations that he had been changing location frequently but settled down at Kashmir for a long time.

He claimed he was in Delhi to meet his brother.

On January 10, Kawa had gone to Delhi for a medical check-up as he had high cholesterol.

On December 22, 2000, terrorists linked to LeT had sneaked into the Red Fort and opened indiscriminate fire on the guards of the 7th battalion of Rajputana Rifles, killing three persons, including a civilian.
