Washington also imposed sanctions on the head of Iran's judiciary and others.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged all signatories to the multilateral 2015 agreement on Iran's nuclear program to continue its implementation amid USA threats to withdraw from the deal, Press TV reported.

Iran says the U.S. has "crossed a red line" by imposing sanctions on the head of its judiciary, Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli-Larijani.

"If the president can get that agreement that meets his objectives and that never expires, that as he said in his October Iran strategy speech that denies Iran all paths to a nuclear weapon, but forever, not for 10 years or any other shorter period of time, he would be open to remaining in such a modified deal", an unnamed administration official told reporters on background reports the Hill.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif responded, saying that the deal is not renegotiable and that Trump's stance amounts to "desperate attempts to undermine a solid multilateral agreement".

Currently, the deal has a sunset clause after which, even President Barack Obama acknowledged, Iran would have a breakout time for producing enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon of about zero.

"Today, we learned that the president's plan includes bullying our allies into fundamentally altering the terms of a deal that they know is working for our mutual security and have publicly stated they have no interest in amending", it said.

"Iran's response will be severe, and all consequences of this hostile act will be the responsibility of the United States", it said.

A senior administration official said Mr Trump wants the 2015 Iran deal strengthened with a follow-on agreement before the 120 days are up, or the United States will unilaterally withdraw from the global pact.

The regime in Iran has slammed the decision by the u.s. president Donald trump of targeting their judiciary chief with sanctions.

LeBron to the Lakers is going to be something you hear about a lot until it either does or does not happen. Along with rookies Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma , Ingram is a part of what is known as the untouchable trio.

The statement was made in the wake of US President Donald Trump's announcement on January 12 of his decision to waive sanctions on Iran as required by the JCPOA, also known as the Iran nuclear deal.

While Trump approved a sanctions waiver, he also chose to impose new, targeted sanctions on Iran, the person said.

Trump has argued behind the scenes that the nuclear deal makes the United States look weak, a senior U.S. official said.

"Trump's remarks should be taken seriously, and whoever wants to keep the nuclear deal would be wise to fix it", a statement from Netanyahu's office read.

Although the United States has suspended sanctions against Iran following the nuclear deal, it still imposes punitive measures over issues such as terrorism, human rights and ballistic missile development.

"Rather than repeating exhausted rhetoric, USA must bring itself into full compliance - just like Iran", Mr Zarif tweeted immediately after Mr Trump's speech.

Mr Trump said: "Despite my strong inclination, I have not yet withdrawn the United States from the Iran nuclear deal".

USA officials say the president will work with European partners to try to broker an agreement limiting Iran's ballistic missile activities.

"The deal is a long-lasting victory for Iran", Rohani said, referring to the accord Tehran signed in 2015 with the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, and China. Allies like French President Macron also encouraged Trump to stick with the deal.

USA presidents, under existing American law, must waive the sanctions every few months to prevent them from causing Iran to declare the nuclear pact violated and simply walk away to resume pursuit of an atomic arsenal.
