Weather warning details heavy snow and ice threat

Snow warning for Largs and west of Scotland

The yellow weather warning is in place from 5pm today through until 10am on Friday 12th January with much of north east Wales and the north west of England affected.

They added: "Fog patches are likely to form during the early part of Wednesday evening, becoming more widespread overnight with the visibility falling below 100m in places".

"This fog will become more extensive overnight and we are expecting frosts in the morning with temperatures expected to drop to below freezing".

The fog remains dense around Laois and the forecaster says it could linger. It will be mainly dry at first with a few bright spells in eastern areas, but rather cloudy overall, with patches of drizzle and mist scattered about.

The bad weather will continue in to Friday, with strong winds and a spell of heavy rain expected.

Snow warning for Largs and west of Scotland

Tomorrow night will be windy and very wet over the western half of the country, with heavy, possibly thundery rain, in many areas and some flooding.

An icy arctic blast is set to batter Britain with snow and gale force winds as temperatures could plummet to -10C in some parts of the UK.

The fog is expected to clear more in coastal counties as the day goes on, but several of these counties will still be subject to the Status Yellow warning due to heavy rainfall.
