Officers in Ceres have arrested a man who allegedly shot and killed his own mother after an argument.

Police reportedly apprehended the man from Ceres Matthew Nicholson, aged 28, late Thursday for charges of homicide.

Matthew Nicholson allegedly fired a handgun twice into a wall before aiming at his mother.

The 28-year-old started yelling while he was playing video games in his bedroom on Wednesday night, police said.

When the victim went to check on Nicholson, the pair began to argue. "The father grabbed the gun, emptied it". A family member told Fox 40, "I understand that he would've killed the father too, but the gun dammed".

He shot his mother in the head before his 81-year-old father Loren Nicholson wrestled the gun out of his hands, according to police.
