Russian FM: Haley's North Korea assertion 'bloodthirsty'

China, North Korea's ally, has in the past sought to block any discussion on human rights in North Korea, arguing that the Human Rights Council in Geneva was the forum for those concerns, and not the Security Council.

The United States is battling to maintain global solidarity in the face of North Korea's nuclear threat after Russian Federation warned that sanctions have failed and China side-stepped talk of an oil embargo.

While it's true that China could intervene, Wicker further said, allowing Kim Jong-un to flaunt the United States gives China "leverage" with the USA and other countries who need its help. "If there's a war with North Korea, it will be because North Korea brought it on itself, and we're headed to a war if things don't change".

President Donald Trump asked his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, to cut off oil supplies to the North.

Explaining the importance of an oil embargo, she said that when China cut off oil supplies to that country in 2003, Pyongyang came to the negotiating table.

Haley called on all nations to "cut off all ties with North Korea" and specifically highlighted China's influence over the rogue regime during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. "We have said a couple of times that the sanctions pressure has in fact exhausted itself", he said.

"We need China to do more", she said. "Unfortunately, they are trying to draw to their side the Japanese and South Koreans who will fall the first victims in case war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula", Lavrov said.

If they seek a pretext to destroy North Korea, they should openly say so and the USA leadership should confirm it.

Trump kept the war of words going while speaking at a meeting in Missouri ridiculing Kim as a "sick puppy" and "little rocket man".

Condemning Washington's approach towards Pyongyang, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday, 30 November, that the U.S. has been looking for an excuse to destroy North Korea by fuelling hostilities.

North Korea has been accelerating its threat to the United States and to the globe with recent missile tests.

"In nine months or so I think that the President's plan will have a great effect".

"In addition to implementing all United Nations sanctions, all countries should sever diplomatic relations with North Korea", she said and urged the Security Council to revoke the North's voting rights at the United Nations.

The ambassador continued, "China could do this on its own, or we can take all situation into our own hands", alluding to further USA action against North Korea in the absence of a Chinese response. China's Deputy Permanent Representative Wu Haitao in effect rejected any new sanctions suggested by Haley, saying that Beijing was committed to finding a diplomatic solution.

There are also concerns in Seoul - which is within range of Pyongyang's artillery - that Trump might be considering military action against the North that could trigger a full-scale war.

Previous U.S. administrations have failed to stop North Korea from developing nuclear weapons and a sophisticated missile program.
