Protests erupt at Hyderabad's Osmania University after 20-year-old student is found dead in hostel washroom

After learning about Murali's death, a large number of students gathered near the hostel. In his suicide letter, retrieved from his pant pocket, he wrote that he couldn't take the academic pressure and feared failing in his exams. I never wanted to fail in exams.

The police action has only added fuel to the fire, with more protests breaking out on Monday, as the entire university went on the boil.

Student associations enforced a bandh which saw participation by 5,000 students on campus even as student leaders accused the police of taking away E Murli's suicide note.

ACP J Narsiah told Deccan Chronicle, "We gave them permission to give condolences to the 21-year-old student and not to make a fuss".

The students said that Murali committed suicide because he could not get a government job.

Students demanded the release of their fellow students who were detained on Sunday, after they prevented the police from taking away Murali's body.
