IDF Retaliates with Tank Fire for Gaza Rockets; No Injuries

Israel hit two "terror targets" in Gaza on Thursday after at least three rockets were fired towards Israeli territory earlier in the day, although most fell inside the Strip.

Residents in the Gaza Strip reported that there were no casualties from the strikes, according to Reuters.

After rockets sirens sounded in Israeli communities near the border in the early evening local time, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said two rockets were fired but failed to make it out of Gaza.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, some 2,147 Palestinians were killed during the 51-day Israeli offensive on Gaza in 2014, including 72 who later succumbed to their wounds. The IDF confirmed the rockets did not reach Israeli soil and the Al-Tawheed Brigade, a Jihadist Salafi group, claimed responsibility for the rockets. The move sparked global opposition and prompted Palestinian leaders to call for three days of protest.

The Spokesperson's Unit also confirmed a third rocket that was sacked toward Israel and reached Israeli territory. Although the decision's long-term effects on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and attempts at peace remain unclear, the announcement has caused an immediate wave of unrest.

"Hamas movement is acting in a powerful manner for the launch of a new Intifada against the Israeli occupation; we need to formulate new strategies and polices to counter the threat and conspiracy against Jerusalem, against Palestine", he said.
