However, westbound lanes of State Route 126 from Copperhill Drive to the 5 Freeway remained closed.

According to an ABC News affiliate, a two-alarm fire that broke out in the Santa Clarita, California, region and has shut down both directions of traffic on the 5 Freeway going through metro Los Angeles.

There were no injuries reported, but the fire had prompted evacuations of around 5,000 people from about 1,300 homes and the closure of sections of the Golden State (5) Freeway and state Route 126.

Firefighters have made some progress against the Rye Fire, which has burned 7,000 acres in Santa Clarita. Westridge High School, Rancho Pico Middle School and Oak Hills Elementary School were evacuated as well.

The fire could reach the Simi Valley area due to heavy winds, the Simi Valley Police Department said in a statement. Authorities say no structures were immediately threatened, but evacuations were later ordered in an area of Santa Clarita, KABC reported.

State officials requested a Fire Management Assistance Declaration for the Rye Fire on Tuesday, which was approved at 3:45 p.m. the same day, according to FEMA officials.

Power was interrupted to 2,090 customers in the Santa Clarita area, according to Southern California Edison. College of the Canyons canceled classes at both of its campuses Tuesday night.

City officials said workers had cleared about 46 trees that were toppled by strong winds.

As of Wednesday morning, evacuations have not been mandated in Simi Valley.

Interstate 5 is closed southbound at Hasley Canyon Road and northbound at Magic Mountain Parkway as of 11:45 a.m.
