A Long Look At Death Stranding, Which Is Still Weird As Hell

08 December 2017, 07:35 | Winston Chapman

Death Stranding gets even more bizarre with its Game Awards trailer

Death Stranding

Kojima Productions gave an extended look at Death Stranding tonight at The Game Awards. Before you know it, a bandaged dead body disintegrates into a shower of golden light, shadow tendrils rise from the ether to consume one of Mads' companions and the whole world starts to float away into the sky - Mads along with it.

There's more Norman Reedus, more Norman Foetus, and those odd black figures from the game's debut trailer over a year ago.

The trailer, as one might expect of Kojima, featured a lot of artistic imagery that somehow manages to inform the viewer while telling them absolutely nothing.

Cal Fire issues mandatory evacuations in San Diego County due to fire
A Red Flag warning was in effect for Southern California thanks to high winds, dry vegetation and low humidity. Cal Fire San Diego Deputy Chief Dave Nissen speaks to reporters with Sheriff Bill Gore (right).

Hideo Kojima, the much-loved director of the wild Death Stranding, briefly appeared on stage following the trailer's debut. He then sees the floating figures we've seen before, this time above a huge crater, hammering home the explosion motif.

As you can tell from the tweet above, it seems like Kojima is simply advertising a potential product, the "thing" that Norman Reedus is seen wearing around his neck in the various Death Stranding videos. The trailer then goes on to take us through a total mindfuck as we watch Reedus deal with invisible foes, protect a baby, and get submerged deep underwater.
