BREAKING: 76ers Trade Jahlil Okafor, Nik Stauskas To Nets

Nets land Jahlil Okafor in stunning trade with 76ers

Jahlil Okafor can take a deep breath. He's averaging just 12.5 minutes per game this season, and it was clear long ago that he wouldn't be a part of the 76ers' long-term plans.

Philly will send guard Nik Stauskas and a 2019 second-round pick via the New York Knicks in exchange for Trevor Booker per The Vertical's Shams Charania.

Stauskas had also struggled to find time in Philadelphia, but he has an opportunity to thrive off the bench in Brooklyn coach Kenny Atkinson's system.

Both Stauskas and Okafor will be free agents at the end of the 2017-18 season.

The improving Sixers (13-10) had declined their team option for next season on Okafor. This trade allows the Sixers to (somewhat) save face following several ugly months of drama.

Brooklyn has been trying to stockpile young talent due to the lack of draft picks they've had over the last few years, acquiring their starting backcourt of D'Angelo Russell and Allen Crabbe via trades this offseason.

In Booker, Philadelphia will add a veteran forward averaging 10.1 points and 6.6 rebounds in his eighth National Basketball Association season.

Okafor is clearly gifted, though, and there indeed exists a world in which he'll carve out a meaningful National Basketball Association niche over the course of his career.
