Ontario To Help College Students

Important Information on the Ongoing Ontario College Strike

OPSEU says the offer allows the colleges to continue to favour contract and non-full time employees with restriction, to avoid paying "equal pay for equal work" for contract faculty, decreasing the percentage of full-time jobs in colleges and more.

The council then asked Ontario's Labour Relations Board to schedule a vote on its offer, which is said to tackle most demands except for language surrounding academic freedom.

As for what's happening, the College Employer Council recently called on the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU)-the union representing striking workers-to suspend the strike and re-start classes.

The council representing the province's 24 colleges said acceptance of the latest contract offer would mean students could be back in the classroom as early as next Tuesday.

"It's important to remember that the fund the minister has announced is being paid for by faculty, not by the colleges", says Thomas in a press release.

"Anything that will help students get through this hard time is more than welcome, and we thank the minister for moving ahead with it", says Hornick in a statement.

Whether this latest setback for Clyne will see the manager turn to the transfer market in January, remains to be seen. Clyne reportedly travelled to London with a member of the club's medical staff for corrective surgery on Monday.

Thursday, November 16, the students will meet in the cafeteria of the main campus on College Drive at 11:30 am.

"We're also extending into April", Vaughn said.

"I'm not going to pre-empt a vote that needs to take into account the position of all of the members", Premier Kathleen Wynne said last week. "That is why I am requiring that colleges establish a dedicated fund with all the savings from the strike".

The offer includes a 7.75 per cent salary increase over four years, improved benefits and several measures to tackle concerns regarding part-time faculty.

"The union is telling you that this is a different offer than what we worked on with the union - one with concessions, one that will harm faculty".

"The union recently confirmed to faculty that major issues in bargaining had been resolved", wrote Jim Madder, in an open letter to faculty on Monday.
