Google has removed the popular "UC Browser" from the Google Play Store.

UC Browser is widely popular in India and it is considered as a popular alternative to Google Chrome.

Speaking to The Times of India, UC Browser spokesperson said that the company takes privacy and data security seriously. The disappearance of the app was first spotted by Reddit users.

UC Browser is the sixth most downloaded Android app in India, and crossed 500 million downloads few weeks back.

This is great for Android fans since it gives them a wider range of options to choose from when it comes to mobile browsers. This browser has been developed with one goal in mind, and that's to offer fast download speeds and a premium user experience. China-based UC Browser is the leading mobile browser in India with over 100 million base in the country and has a bigger base than Google Chrome.

It's worth noting here that the iOS version of the app is still available in the Apple App Store while the UC Browser Mini continues to be listed on the Play Store. The browser was delisted from the app store for misleading and unhealthy promotions. However, Android Police's founder Artem Russakovskii posted about an email from UC Union (which is the company's network affiliate) which talks about UC Browser using "Malicious Promotion" methods. The report said that people had complained that the browser was controlling the device's DNS even after uninstallation. And, most probably, that's what the government has done by de-listing the application from Google play store. Like sending user data back to China, something that China-based application developers often get accused of in addition to shady practices like tag-jacking (so as to top app store searches), using misleading names, copying the names of popular apps and lots and lots of ads (including lock screen ones that just won't go away).
