Today in Mass Shootings: Five Dead in Northern California

At least three people have died and a number of primary school students have been wounded after a string of shootings in northern California.

Shortly afterward, the gunman rammed through the gate of Rancho Tehama Elementary School about 2 miles away and spent about six minutes shooting into the building, striking at least one student, Johnston said. A woman and another child were shot in a truck that was driving near the school and taken to the hospital, he added.

Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston said Rancho Tehama School had seen a number of students airlifted to hospital, with seven people in total hospitalised. The shooter himself has been killed by police and several victims are now being treated at a local hospital.

But police said Tuesday's incident spanned multiple shooting scenes involving multiple victims, and that three deaths, including the shooter, stemmed from the shootings. Johnston said there were more than 100 officers helping cover the multiple scenes. Other students were moved to a safe location, he said. "He was reported for a domestic violence incident just yesterday".
