"I think it's wonderful at Christmas time but I always like to think the Salvation Army - particularly does things at other times of the year", said Chisolm.

The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination since 1880 in the United States. We are really relying on our community to help their neighbors in need.

"Drum roll please, $1.1 million", Mueller told onlookers.

The Salvation Army wants to raise $150,000 through the Red Kettle campaign this holiday season, Capt. Bobby Jackson said.

The Salvation Army is ringing in the holiday season by preparing for their most popular campaign.

Money raised during the campaign stays local in each community and is used by the Salvation Army to provide assistance throughout the year to those who face poverty, sickness, unemployment, and rising expenses.

It is funding raised through many sources such as corporate donations, but mainly through red kettles.

One challenge for the local Salvation Army is that a "major regional retailer" no longer is allowing volunteers to ring the bell in front of their locations, he said. But Meisner says the donations also went to serving 30,000 meals and providing 29,000 nights of lodging to thousands of people year-round. "We're proud to be out here and support them", Meyers said.

Kettles will be available at five sites in High River and Okotoks, with a sixth beginning in December, Cole said.
