Russell was examined Sunday by team doctors and underwent an MRI and the Nets said "return to play updates will be provided as appropriate".

Brooklyn Nets guard D'Angelo Russell will likely miss several games with a left knee injury, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The replay didn't look that bad, but Russell immediately hobbled to the bench, and looked to be in real pain.

Russell's injury won't hurt the Nets too much in the short term.

Russell has been very impressive so far in the early season since being traded from Los Angeles to Brooklyn. The 2015 No. 2 overall pick averaged 15.6 points and 4.8 assists per game and shot 35.2 percent from three-point range. For a franchise that dealt with Jeremy Lin's ruptured patellar tendon on opening night, that image gave Nets fans a scare. He also had another 22-point outing a couple games later while Russell was still struggling.
