Apple has once again emerged as the no.1 in the wearable band market in a quarter said Canalys Research in its latest market report

According to a report from market research outfit Canalys, Apple shipped 3.9 million watches in third quarter, 800,000 of which were cellular enabled.

Chinese firm Xiaomi slipped to the second spot with 3.6 million wearables, while Fitbit remained at the third place with 3.5 million units.

In terms of market share, Apple sits at the top with 23 per cent, followed by Xiaomi on 21 per cent and Fitbit on 20 per cent.

For the end of 2017, Canalys expects a strong Q4 thanks to new models promising boosted performance and battery life, as well as seasonal sales for the Holiday period.

Rand Paul has hired a personal injury lawyer as the court case involving a dispute with a longtime neighbor is ramping up.

The new device, Apple's first that connects to the internet without being tethered to a smartphone, took the USA mobile giant to 3.9 million shipments in the recent Q3 2017, according to new data from Canalys. This is a big jump from the 2.8 million units shipped previous year. Their increase in third quarter shipments was, however, more than offset by slowing demand for fitness trackers. "In fact, our entire wearables business was up 75% year over year in the fourth quarter and in fiscal 2017 already generated the annual revenue of a Fortune 400 company". Also, the watch did not reach its full potential in the quarter, suffering limited availability with demand outstripping supply. Tim Cook noted that "With unit growth of over 50% for the third consecutive quarter, it continues to be the best selling and most loved smartwatch in the world". In most of the markets, only the Wi-Fi version of the Watch Series 3 is available.

Apple withdrew all Series 2 Watch units from sale, and now positions 2015's Series 1 Watch as the new entry-level, starting at £249. The Chinese government has now disabled the Apple Watch LTE access due to apparent security concerns, but the once the issue is resolved, Canalys expects strong demand from the Chinese buyers as well, according to 9to5mac. "Otherwise, the market will see further consolidation, as vendors such as Apple, Samsung and Fitbit dominate with their watch software platforms", said Canalys analyst Jason Low.

At 9.53 a.m. EST, Apple shares were down 0.57% at $173.02.
