Bethesda has been marketing the game for it's anti-nazi elements and it has sparked quite a bit of political criticism but the company has replied with a bold statement defending their stance. So, when these people read the tweet, "Make America Nazi-Free Again", they probably thought that they were being jabbed at.

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus will release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One October 27. "We aren't going to shy away from what the game is about", he continued.

Speaking with Game Industry, Bethesda's VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines addressed the controversy behind Wolfenstein 2: The Colossus' anti-Nazi marketing campaign and added that Bethesda doesn't make games to make political statements.

In Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, the Nazis won World War 2 and nearly the entire world is under Nazi control come 1961.

"[In the game] freeing America is the first step to freeing the world. Our campaign leans into that sentiment, and it unfortunately happens to highlight current events in the real world".

"We're certainly aware of current events in America and how they relate to some of the themes in Wolfenstein II".

The plot of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is turning out to have an especially powerful message.

All you have to do us look at the comments and see for yourself. He explains that Bethesda is both aware of America's climate and that they're making a statement with the game and its longstanding theme of killing Nazis, saying... We make games that we think are fun, meaningful, and immersive for a mature audience. The Wolfenstein franchise has been around for over 20 years, and the object of the game has always been to rid the world of Nazis. He said that "It's disturbing that the game can be considered a controversial political statement at all." . The only thing that's changed is the world, which is why Hines defended the game's marketing message.

"This is what our game is about", he says. It's what this franchise has always been about.

It's no surprise, then, that the ad campaign for "Wolfenstein II" focuses on the dispelling of Nazis from the USA - that's what the game is about as well. "But this baiting of Trump supporters to get mad about associating their beliefs with Nazism, in order to say 'whoa dude you dislike this so you must support NAZIS!?!' is aggravating". The thought is something Hines and many other sane people find disconcerting.

2K Games" Mafia III aimed to present an honest depiction of racism in the "60s, while Ubisoft's upcoming Far Cry 5 is arguably positioned as an exploration of extremist cults.

And it's put the game's publisher, Bethesda Softworks, in a unusual place.

"We can't speak to what other publishers choose to do and say with their games", he says.
